 Answer:

1. poetry is a composition of words that are arranged in beautiful language, containing meaning, rhythm, rhyme, dimension and verse.

 

2. generally, English poetry divided into 3 types :

Lyric

    An emotional writing focusing on thought and emotion - can consist of a song-like quality. Subdivisions include elegy, ode and sonnet. Lyric poetry does not attempt to tell a story.

    William Shakespeare "Sonnet Number 18:"

    Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?

    Thou art more lovely and more temperate.

    Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

    And summer's lease hath all too short a date.

    Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

    And often is his gold complexion dimmed,

    And every fair from fair sometime declines,

    By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed.

 

Narrative

    A poem which tells a story. Includes the subdivision epic, a long story which tells of the heroic ideals of a particular society, and ballad, which generally tell of an event of interest such as a crime.

    The Iliad by Homer

    Sing, Goddess, Achilles' rage,

    Black and murderous, that cost the Greeks

    Incalculable pain, pitched countless souls

    Of heroes into Hades' dark,

    And left their bodies to rot as feasts

    For dogs and birds, as Zeus' will was done.

    Begin with the clash between Agamemnon-

    The Greek warlord - and godlike Achilles.

 

Dramatic

    Any drama written in verse which is meant to be spoken, usually to tell a story or portray a situation. The majority of dramatic poetry is written in blank verse.

Pedro Calderon de la Barca’s The Dream Called Life

DREAM it was in which I found myself.
And you that hail me now, then hailed me king,
In a brave palace that was all my own,
Within, and all without it, mine; until,
Drunk with excess of majesty and pride,
Methought I towered so big and swelled so wide
That of myself I burst the glittering bubble

3. Indonesian poetry is classified into three which are old poem, modern poem, and contemporary poem.

old poetry

    In old poetry, there are bound rules, among others. Specific number of words in 1 line, The number of certain lines in 1 stanza, Rhythm in poetry, Here is the example of old poetry

    Pada zaman dahulu kala.

    Tersebutlah sebuah cerita.

    Sebuah negeri yang aman sentosa.

    Dipimpin sang raja nan bijaksana.

 

New poetry or Modern Poetry

    This form of poetry is freer than the old poetry in terms of the number of lines, syllables, and rhymes. Here is the example of new poetry

    Asmara Hadi Generasi Sekarang

    Di atas puncak gunung fantasi Berdiri aku,

    dan dari sana Mandang ke bawah,

    ke tempat berjuang Generasi sekarang di panjang masa.

    Menciptakan kemegahan baru Pantoen keindahan Indonesia

    Yang jadi kenang-kenangan Pada zaman dalam dunia

 

contemporary poetry

    The contemporary poem does no longer speak of how great the language of the poet. But it stresses more on the typography structure, the use of foreign words, and sometimes even harsh words. Here is the example of contemporary poetry
